Breathwork

Realise the power of your Breath.

Breathwork is a therapeutic practice that allows you to tap into your own healing potential.

A somatic practice designed to take us out of our busy mind, drop us into our body and connect with our deeper layers of consciousness where true healing and release happens.

We use a style of Breathwork known as conscious connected or circular breathing. It is a powerful tool to move you from the high arousal fight-or-flight state into the healing parasympathetic state, bringing balance to your mind and body.

Breathwork provides a unique opportunity to engage with your inner self on a much deeper level, fostering a sense of connection and profound peace that radiates through every aspect of your life.

Trained in Holosomatic Breath Therapy

The term 'Holosomatic' merges 'holo' (meaning 'whole' or 'entire') and 'somatic' (pertaining to the body, in contrast to the mind). Breath, Body, and Energy form the three foundational pillars of Holosomatic Therapy.

'Holosomatic Therapy,' was originally developed by and trademarked by Alexis Alcalá and InnerCamp.

During a session...

A typical one-to-one or group session will last between 90 minutes and 2 hours. We will explain everything at the start of the session so that you know exactly what to expect and there will be an opportunity to ask any questions.

Your Breathwork journey will also be a musical journey. You will be fully guided and supported throughout by Lee-Anne, an experienced facilitator, and the powerful music will take you even deeper.

We begin with a grounding, guided relaxation. You’ll usually be lying down for most of the active Breathwork session which is followed by a deeply relaxing rest phase. There will then be time for sharing and journalling if you are drawn to do so. We often enjoy a cup of herbal tea to close the session and ensure you're feeling centred and grounded.

Are there any contraindications for Breathwork?

Yes.

Although conscious connected breathwork is regarded to be very safe and effective there are a number of health conditions that are contraindicated.

Contraindications are listed below.

  • Pregnancy

During deep breathing, a breather experiences specific psychological changes in the body, including blood becoming more alkaline. This same blood goes through the fetus then. Pregnant women are not allowed to do the breathwork only because there haven't been any studies on this impact on the fetus's health. Moreover, premature contractions can be triggered in later periods of pregnancy.

Personal & family history of Aneurysms

Blood circulation and the amount of oxygen in the body are both impacted by breathwork. Those who are susceptible to aneurysms may be affected differently from those who are not. Be sure to discuss with your doctor whether or not breathwork is a concern for you. We ask that they confirm that it's safe to participate.

    Asthma

If it is well controlled you can do breathwork, please have your inhaler available during the session.

Severe cardiovascular diseases and/or irregularities, including prior heart attack

Strong emotional release or physical movement can stress the cardio system. We ask your medical professional to confirm that it's safe to participate

Use of prescription blood thinners such as Coumadin.

    Detached retina and/or Glaucoma

During a breathing session, a breather may stress and strain internally, which could temporarily increase intraocular pressure that would worsen glaucoma symptoms. Moreover, if the breather experiences blurred vision, this may be an undiagnosed case of glaucoma, and a person needs to examine their eyes before continuing breathwork.

    Osteoporosis

Recent hospitalization; Severe bone and joint problems; Recent injury or surgery. In altered states of consciousness during breathwork, a person can start moving uncontrollably and hurt themselves if they are facing the issues stated above.

    Epilepsy

High blood pressure issues that are not controlled with medication

    History of Strokes

    History of seizures

Prior physical injuries that are not fully healed and could be re-injured through intense movement.

  • Prior diagnosis by a Medical Professional of manic disorder, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia - There is a slight risk that breathwork may trigger a manic episode.

Hospitalization for any psychiatric condition or emotional crisis within the last ten years.

Severe cases of PTSD may need to be signed off by a mental health professional.

  • Your well-being is our absolute priority therefore, if you’re under care and receiving treatment for some of the conditions listed above we may ask that your health care professional has given consent for you to participate and that it is deemed to be safe for you.
